Discover the Best Neighbourhood to Explore in Beautiful Yerevan

by | Dec 1, 2023

No one will tell you about it. The guidebooks barely mention it. Postcards avoid it. Most artists stay away.

Kond lies hidden behind the city’s modern buildings, with few access points. An array of winding alleys, inaccessible by car, comprise this area. Deep black and dark brown stone houses in various states of artistic dilapidation line Kond’s lanes. Doors lead into courtyards, robbed of traditional beauty, with old, broken chairs, rusted panels and drying clothes against deep green doors, dreaming of fresh paint. Few people stir on these streets, ruled by silence.

A new view and photo opportunity composed of rough beauty and earthly colours lies at each turn. The modern city vanishes from both sight and memory. Yerevan’s disappearing past lies here, contrasting with its lifeless modernity.

One must climb stairs or the occasional road to find this treasure. Many surprises await the traveller willing to explore this forgotten part of Yerevan. You’ll leave inspired, having explored another side of this modern city.

Questioned by the Police in Sensational Barichara

Barichara captivated me with its charm. I arrived after a 45-minute bus trip from San Gil, where nothing hinted at this colonial masterpiece. The village lies on the side of a hill, which descends on the Suarez River Canyon on one side. Green mountains lie on the...
